A bit of glitter for New Year's Eve

Who doesn't love glitter? It's oh so fabulous and perfect for an occasion such as New Year's Eve.

Last year, I took to my fabric shop and found some amazing black velvet covered in spouts of glitter. The fabric is stretchy and very much like the kind you would see gymnasts or dancers wear for glamorous floor routines.

I knocked up a cropped top with 3/4 length sleeves using the top half of a loose fitting skater dress I have as a pattern. The edge of the fabric was pressed down and neatened already so I used this as the bottom hem of the top - a bit of a cheat's way of hemming!

The only problem with glitter is that it gets everywhere. There was glitter all over my flat and it became a glitter pandemonium. I used a whole can of hairspray to try and fix the glitter on but it hardly worked, so I spent last New Year's Eve trailing glitter behind me and brightening up everyone else's homes with it.
